Towards the end of the 1770s, Mozart got wind of the tremendous opportunities afforded by writing not for one solo instrument and orchestra, but two. The most joyous example of the six double concertos he embarked upon is that written in 1779, Piano Concerto No. 10 in E flat major, in which 'stereo’ soloists converse with the conviviality of the two old friends catching up.
